Prof Norman Faull is the chairperson of LIA and Emeritus Professor of Business Administration at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town. He conducted his PhD research at Toyota South Africa and was among the first researchers in South Africa to introduce innovative manufacturing and supply chain improvement concepts, such as lean manufacturing, into the country. In recent years he has focused on implementation of lean management in the South African public health system. He teaches on MBA and executive programmes at UCT and elsewhere. He is a member of several boards including the Lean Global Network and the Production and Operations Management Society, headquartered in Miami, USA.
Dr Anton Grütter is the Director: Learning Development of LIA. He has taught operations management to under-, post-graduate and MBA students for many years. He has served as the acting director of the School of Business and Finance at the University of the Western Cape. His PhD research was on the effectiveness of shop floor process improvement teams in South African manufacturers. He has published in the Journal of Operations Management and his textbook on operations management was published by Heinemann in 2010. He is a member of the research task group of the Lean Global Network. He consults to industry and has led several projects to apply lean management in the South African justice system.
Between them Prof Faull and Dr Grütter have supervised dozens of masters and MBA research reports and have more than 50 years of experience in applying the principles and practices of lean management in the South African environment.
Lisa Mulder is the LIA Office Manager. She has taught operations management at undergraduate level at the University of the Western Cape and facilitated an entrepreneurship foundation course at the Tertiary School in Business Administration (TSiBA). She has completed a BCom (Hons) Degree in Management and has extensive management experience in small business development, tertiary education, mental health and property management in South Africa and the UK.
