The first ever Toyota Kata conference took place two weeks ago in Florida, USA. I was very fortunate to attend, and particularly that Mike Rother gave me ‘Kata Geek’ status to be on the inside track of the learning.

Why am I interested enough to fly across the world for a two-and-a-half day event? I think Kata is the key to sustained improvement. It goes beyond the ‘start of shift’ meeting. It serves to develop and entrench evidence-based practices and improvements. If we can’t sustain improvements and the process of making further improvements we achieve very little in the longer term. The improvement kata (IC) and the coaching kata (CK) are at the heart of achieving sustained success.

Please join me for South Africa’s first Kata workshops in May, in Cape Town or Johannesburg. For more information and to register visit: https://www.lean.org.za/toyota-kata-tk/

Kind regards,

Norman Faull
